More about Florida Wild Mammal Association

FWMA is the only licensed wildlife rehabilitation center in four coastal counties in the Florida Big Bend area. Located in Wakulla County, we serve our county as well as Jefferson, Taylor and Franklin counties in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of our orphaned, sick and injured birds and wildlife. We also assist existing organizations in Leon County with this mission. FWMA believes education on the value of our wildlife is of primary importance; we provide educational programs for our community and continue to work closely with several school programs and other organizations in this regard.

Unfortunately, our facility is not open to the public on a daily basis for tours and visits. We do not have sufficient staff/volunteers to be able to provide quality, attentive care to our needy patients while also trying to supervise tours and visitors. Further, our patients are wild animals, often easily scared and stressed, and a quiet environment with minimal exposure to humans is always in their best interest. We do occasionally host community events that are open to the public and tours are available at those times.

We thank all of our volunteers and donors. We thank those who participate in our fundraisers as well as donate their time, talent and products to makes these events successful. We also thank the area veternarians who provide medical care to the patients who need it. Without the support of these caring veterinarians, volunteers and donors, FWMA could not survive.
