Flower Bluff Mansion Steak House

The Flower Bluff mansion, on the SE corner of 4th St. and Muskogee Ave., was built in 1924 by Jesse Denton (J.D.) Ramsey (1860-1937), a former Sulphur Mayor, sheriff and entrepreneur who moved to Sulphur, after building hotels and other businesses in Lawton.

He owned two movie theaters, a lake and an amusement concession and was later mayor of Sulphur. (1)

The Bluff has been through many changes over its nearly 90 years.
This historic two-story home contains approximately 4,728 square feet and has been a private residence, second home, bed (not) breakfast and tea room.

It is architecturally unique (best described as Arts and Crafts foursquare bungalow) and a key feature is a wraparound porch (first floor) and veranda (second floor). Its roof tiles are metal (not clay) and original to the structure. The three-lot corner property is strategically located to take full advantage of the rebirth of Downtown Sulphur.

Across Muskogee to the north is the Arbuckle Historical Society museum (previously the old City Hall/fire station/jail), an art gallery and saddle shop.

One block to the east is the Rusty Nail Winery; and two blocks further is the new Artesian Hotel, Spa and Casino, and Chickasaw Visitors Center.

One-half block south is the famous Vendome well and walking entrance into The Chickasaw National Reserve.

We are excited and hope to be a great addition to downtown Sulphur's historic district.

Interesting Flower Bluff Trivia:
Town lore maintains a secret tunnel runs somewhere under Muskogee Ave. from the Bluff to Grey Gables, where it is rumored Mr. Ramsey's "lady-friend" lived.
