From the earliest days of Forest, Mississippi there has always been a Methodist church. The earliest place of worship may have a log school house near the site of the present day Lackey Memorial Hospital. The land where Forest United Methodist church resides was purchased in 1871, with the church constructed in 1910. As Forest, MS grew the community needed a larger church. The new church began services on May 5, 1957 with parts of the prior church incorporated into the new building.
The history of Forest UMC was derived from Scott County, History and Families. Turner Publishing Company, 2002.
