In 1951, a group of Franklin Township residents met in the living room at a family farm and discussed the need for a volunteer fire department in Franklin Township. From this meeting and with the support of the community, a Volunteer Fire Department was established. Today, with more than half a century of service to the community, Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department is a progressive provider of emergency services to the Northern part of Richland County. 8 pieces of apparatus operate out of our main station, and 2 additional apparatus operate from the Weller Twp. station. Franklin Township has innovated experience in rural fire operations, and emergency medical care under established protocols issued by our Medical Director. Franklin contracts paramedic services to provide superior pre-hospital care with our basic and advanced EMT's. Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department typically has a membership of around 35 members who are either Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, or Both.
