Frederick Douglass Inclusion Council (the “FDIC”) is a statewide grassroots program administered by the PA GOP to empower and support African Americans in their own communities. The grassroots program will develop statewide initiatives to expand and diversify the base of the PA Republican Party. The council is governed by a board of directors that in which its members serves two-year terms and gives leadership to yearly initiatives.
The Frederick Douglass Inclusion Council was founded on June 19, 2015, on the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free.
With 150 years passed by, the Founders of the FDIC believe it is now time to assess the progress of the African-Americans in America and provide a clear urban agenda that will empower and uplift Communities of Color.
