Free Spirit Photography

My name is Tara Napier Brock and I am the free spirit behind Free Spirit Photography. I live in the Appalachian Mountains of southeastern Kentucky where natural beauty abounds, and oftentimes I don't have to go any further than my own yard to find beautiful and interesting things to photograph.
I've always had an appreciation for beauty, whether man-made or natural. Over the years the outdoors is where I find peace, comfort, relaxation, and wonder. Mother Nature beckons me to explore, to discover, to have adventures, to find out what lies on the other side of that hill or beyond the next curve in the road ahead...in short, it's where my spirit feels free.
I'm not sure if photography helped develop my love of nature or if nature helped develop my passion for photography. Either way, they go hand in hand, and I find that I can't look at anything without automatically seeing its potential as a photograph. There is subject matter anywhere you look, if you look with observant eyes and an open mind. Sometimes all you have to do is study an object really closely. There is art in the seemingly mundane if you notice textures, and patterns, and shapes.
I've been taking pictures as a pasttime for about 10 years now, but only in the last 3 years has it turned into what you could call a way of life. I have not one speck of professional training or sophisticated equipment, but I don't think that's necessary if you let beauty speak for itself- you just have to capture it when it's speaking.
