Fremont Drag Strip (Fremont Raceways), later known as Baylands Raceway was opened in Fremont,Ca in 1959 and was one of the top Dragstrips in the Country until it was closed in November of 1988.
The track was built on a old abandoned air field (Heath Field) that served as an Auxillary Landing strip for near by Moffett Naval Air Station during WWII.The property the track once sat on is still a vacant lot until present day 2011.
Many of the greatest names in Drag Racing raced and set records at Fremont.It was known for its great air because of it proximity to the Bay, making cars runs more efficient and faster than most tracks.
