Fremont High school was organized August 13, 1905 in East Oakland. Its first home was on the third floor of the Melrose Grammar School and was designated as Union High school #4. The name was changes to Fremont High School in 1906.
Mr. Frank Stuart Rosseter was the First Principal in 1905, assisted by a faculty of four when Union High School #4 was first organized. One hundred thirty pupils were enrolled and the first graduating class consisted of three seniors.
"The F.L.A.M.E" (Fruitvale, Lockwood, Allendale, Elmhurst) was chosen as the name of the monthly publication and yearbook for the school. Yellow and green were selected as the school colors.
In 1906, due to the influx from the devastated areas caused by the San Francisco earthquake and fire, the enrollment increased to 225 students so the school was moved to its present location at 46th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.
