Columbus-Belmont State Park is a 156 acre park, 2.5 mile trail, river cliff campground with 38 sites, civil war/area museum. The site is where Confederate fortifications were established during the Civil War to protect the Upper Mississippi Valley. The Battle of Belmont in 1861 took place here, and was General Ulysses S. Grant's first active engagement in the war. There are still some remains from the battle fought here, and a museum is located in the park to provide visitors with a complete guide to area and Civil War history. There are boat ramps located on the park for access to the Mississippi River. The Civil War Trail that will bring to life scenes from the War Between the States, as users pass through Confederate trenches and bluffs.
