Turkey Run and Shades– Same Creek, Same Friends

The Friends of Turkey Run and Shades State Parks was established in 2005 and the organization's contributions to the Parks have been significant.
*Personnel support to annual Eagles in Flight Weekend to host hundreds of visitors interested in raptor habitat.
*Restore and maintain 1840's kitchen garden at the Lusk Home.
*Repaired and rebuilt part of Trail 1 after erosion damage.
*Assisted in building amphitheater at Turkey Run.
*Purchased sound system for use in educational programs through the Nature Center.
*Annual birding field trips and other educational hikes or presentations for members.

Ongoing projects:
*Annual eradication work for control of garlic mustard, bush honeysuckle and other invasives.
*Annual subscriptions for periodicals and other materials in the Nature Center library.
*Fundraising for preservation of unrestored area of historic Lusk home.
*Finances for special projects such as the Chautauqua at Shades, mounting of specimens in the Nature Center, and materials for children's educational programs about nature.
*Countless volunteer hours for Earth Day, Smokey Bear's birthday, Archaeology Day, Pioneer Days and other Nature Center activities enjoyed by Park visitors.
