Fullmer's Ace Hardware

In 1962, John P. and Marge Fullmer bought a grocery store – Little Super Foods – on Main Street in Gunnison, Colorado. Little did they know where that business would be today. John P. (Homer) and Marge moved Little Super to a new location on Main St. over the next couple of years and then bought a much larger building on Tomichi Ave. (US Hwy 50). The move to the larger location in 1972 saw Little Super Foods grow up to be Super Foods. By 1974 though Homer could see that the life of a small grocery store was in danger with the influx of the major grocery chain stores into Gunnison. It was time for a change. The Fullmer’s, with their son Lorin, switched from food to hardware. In 1975 they became a Coast-to-Coast hardware store. They converted the meat cases and produce bins to tool and hardware shelves. In 1983 they felt the need for another change. With his two sons J.R. and Lorin onboard, the Fullmer’s switched affiliations and became True Value hardware. Expanding over the years with two major building additions, the 6500 square foot grocery store had become 15,000 square feet of hardware selling space to meet Gunnison’s homeowner needs. But one more change needed to take place. In 1998, now under the direction of J.R. Fullmer, the business changed again and became Fullmer’s ACE Hardware. This affiliation with Ace Hardware Corp. and it’s over 4500 members worldwide and the Fullmer’s goal to provide world-class customer service, has brought Fullmer’s Ace Hardware to it’s trusted position in the community today. The Fullmer family has served Gunnison for over 50 years and looks forward to many more years of serving our community. Thank you, Gunnison.
