Gamma Phi Beta: Beta Omega

Members of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority are proud of our rich and accomplished history, dating back to our founding on November 11, 1874, at Syracuse University in New York.

In a society where women were discouraged from attending college because of their "insufficient brainpower" and "delicate health," four friends came together to form a women's society. They bonded together to face adversity and to encourage one another's intellectual growth. Now, more than 135 years later, we celebrate the vision and dedication of those women -- and all who have come since then -- who have built Gamma Phi Beta Sorority into one of the largest and most well-respected sororities in the world.

The Gamma Phi Beta's at Northern Arizona University promote the highest form of womanhood. We push forward the original vision of our sorority by encouraging each other through love, labor, learning and loyalty...breaking the mold, traveling the world, laughing together, growing together and inspiring each other every step of the way.

We believe in philanthropy. Our mission is to "build resiliency in girls". Resilient girls are those who bounce back through every circumstance. Resilient girls refuse to beaten down, believe in themselves and are confident in themselves.

-Less than 7% of philanthropic dollars go to womans & girls programs

-Only 19% of girls believe they will become the boss of their own company

We encourage young girls to become leaders, visionaries and to always dream big. We do this through supporting programs like Camp Fire USA & involvement within our community.

Connect. Impact. Shine.

Our sisterhood is what keeps us together. It's the girls we couldn't imagine college without. It's four years that turns into a lifetime of connections. It's meetings, retreats, creek trips, formals & date parties. It's bringing each other home for the holidays, traveling the world together and studying together. It's having someone next door to watch a movie with, always having someone to laugh with, a lunch date or a game night. Gamma Phi Beta is the simple things and the big things. It's inside jokes in Flagstaff, but it is also a bond that connects us with women around the world.

"Since the rock is the firmest and most enduring substance, able to withstand the ravages of time, and offering the strongest protection, it seemed fitting that Gamma Phi Beta should be thus founded. Protecting, like the rock, those who enter our fold, a sure help in time of need, enduring to the end time - this is the wish for Gamma Phi Beta from one of the Founders."
- Eunice Adeline Curtis, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, 1912
