Garden of Hope and Courage

The Garden of Hope and Courage is the 2.5 acre healing garden located on the downtown campus of the NCH Baker Hospital. It is a sanctuary and memorial for Jan Emfield who passed away from breast Cancer in 1994 and is inspired by her great courage as well as all whose lives have been affected by this horrific disease. Jan recognized both the physical and emotional healing benefits a peaceful garden provides patients, families and health care providers. Consisting of a formal garden and an open air pavilion, the gardens main centerpiece is a lake. A concrete path encircles the lake allowing multiple wheel chairs to pass one another. The garden is full of beautiful flowers, trees, benches and sculpture.
