Gary New Duluth Veterans Memorial

The Gary New Duluth Veterans Monument is celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2012. This community landmark was built in
1952 to commemorate the service of WWII and Korean War veterans from Gary New Duluth. A partial list of Vietnam veterans
was later added.


WHAT IS OUR GOAL?
To restore the existing monument to its original glory and in addition build a NEW monument to recognize ALL veterans from the Far West neighborhoods of Gary New Duluth, Riverside, Smithville, Morgan Park and Fond du Lac who
served in the Vietnam, Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.

WHAT TYPE OF RESTORATION WILL TAKE PLACE?
The existing monument will be totally restored with new mortar, repair of cracked bricks/rocks, repair of open vents and removal of the flagpole on top of the monument.

WHAT IS THE NEW MONUMENT?
A new monument will be constructed with the names of veterans who served in the Vietnam (December 11, 1961 - April 30, 1975), Gulf (Desert Shield / Storm August 7, 1990 - April 11, 1991), Iraq (March 20, 2003 - December 18, 2011) and Afghanistan (October 7, 2001 - ongoing) Wars and who grew up in the Far West area prior to service, AND ALSO all veterans of these conflicts who are current Far West residents though they may hail from other parts of the city, state or country. All Veterans that were in the military during these conflicts will be recognized.
