Gastonia First Wesleyan Church

First Wesleyan Church is an evangelical fellowship of believers in the Methodist tradition. The Church was established and has been preserved by God for more than a hundred years to accomplish the following:

1. Evangelism: If people with whom we have contact die and go to hell, nothing else we have done for them matters.

2. Worship: The one thing we can do for God is worship Him. Doing so not only pleases Him but it also helps us to see ourselves as we really are (both positively and negatively).

3. Relationship: God has made each of us and so we are valuable to Him. He loves us just like we are but He loves us too much to let us stay that way. God's primary ways of changing us are through His Son and through His Family.

4. Ministry: Every Christian needs a job. God gives every believer one or more gifts in order to make the Body of Christ more effective.

5. Responsibility: The solutions to the problems of our society are primarily spiritual. No other institution, other than the Church, can address the root causes of crime, poverty, exploitation, abuse, hatred and addiction.

6. Leadership: It all rises and falls on leadership. Leaders in the Church must be called of God, empowered by His Spirit, cleansed of selfish ambition, broken-hearted for lost people and equipped with a "basin and towel" to serve those they lead.

These purposes are accomplished by the following:

Ministry for Children: Sunday morning, Wednesday evening and all throughout the week, First Wesleyan provides the highest level of instruction, activity and fun for children from the cradle through high school. Nursery & Toddlers, Sunday School, Children’s Church, AWANA and S&D Youth all provide a wide array of involvement.

Music Ministry: God has abundantly blessed First Wesleyan with musical talent. Whether it was the 100 voice children’s choir in the ‘40’s, the Gastonia Area Youth Chorus which toured the world in the 70’s or the current crop of Chancel Choir and Contemporary Praise Team members, music is the soul of worship and ministry at First Wesleyan.

Teaching Ministry: How God “gifts” a Church tells something about how He intends to use the Church to accomplish His purposes for the Church. God has blessed First Wesleyan with men and women who know how to read and understand the Word of God and then make it understandable and applicable to everyday life.
