Gateway is a census designated place (CDP) in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,943 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community is located just north of Southwest Florida International Airport.GeographyGateway is located at .According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.7sqmi, of which 8.6sqmi is land and 0.2sqmi is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 2,943 people, 1,114 households, and 952 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 344.2 people per square mile (132.9/km²). There were 1,322 housing units at an average density of 154.6/sq mi (59.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.6% White, 2.1% Black, 0.14% Native American, 1.53% Asian, 0.78% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 19.26% of the population.There were 1,514 households out of which 33.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 80.6% were married couples living together, 3.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.5% were non-families. 11.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 2.86.
