Previously Lombardis Coal Oven Pizza, in Rittenhouse Square 1998-2005, we have created a pizza the way our founder Gennaro Lombardi would have in the 1940's. The GIs returning from WWII told their loved ones about the incredible food called pizza. Gennaro's Tomato Pie is a recreation of that time, from the moment you step in the door, you are stepping back in time. Gennaros Tomato Pie originally opened at 1429 Jackson Street and we have expanded to 1533 S. 11th Street and added to our menu. "Tomato Pie" was the name for pizza in 40s. Whole milk mozzarella placed on a thin dough and splattered on top with fresh crushed tomatoes. We make it the same way, thin crust, topped with whole milk mozzarella crafted in NYC. Spoonfuls of San Marzano tomatoes, handcrushed, splattered on top of the cheese. A light swirl of EVOO and into the oven. No Sugar. No Lard. No Oil. Nothing but pure ingredients that speak for themselves. "To Gennaro! Mangia!"
