The General Federation of Women's Clubs, one of the world's largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational, women's volunteer service organizations, was founded in 1890 and chartered by the 56th United States Congress in 1901.
The woman’s club of Palatka began when northern winter visitors heard of this organization and thought it beneficial to start the movement in Florida. So In 1895 green cove springs with 4 other clubs chartered The Florida federation of woman’s clubs now known as GFWC Florida. Palatkas woman’s club becoming the 7th club to join this federation.
