Giano Intermediate School

Located in a West Covina, California, Giano is one of 23 Rowland Unified School District sites. Built in 1964, Giano serves students in grades
7-8. Our 708 students reflect a student body and community that makes high levels of success of all students its number one priority. With the help of a dedicated and caring staff students make significant gains in their achievement levels. Giano’s current API is 765 leading to a 7 of 10 rank compared to similar schools. Giano’s success is largely the result of: a student-centered Leadership team who collaborate to plan, coordinate, and implement Giano’s learning programs; our dedicated teaching staff who consistently meet to analyze student achievement data, discuss effective teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, and monitor student progress; and the Giano parents, who are an integral part of student learning and Giano’s educational program, we believe that a strong Home-School reciprocal relationship is critical in improving students’ academic success.

The school is committed to doing what’s best for students by embracing a "no excuses" philosophy and an asset building approach.
This often involves professional development that takes place during our Late Start Fridays. Giano is continually evolving its programs
to increase student achievement and to motivate students and staff.

Giano proudly offers a Laptops for Learning program in all English classrooms. The AVID
program supports students who would` be the first in their families to attend college. Our award-winning counseling and student support
system focuses on what can be done to ensure student personal success through classroom presentations and individual meetings. Students are made aware and take ownership of their own work and willingly make a commitment to attend before and after school tutoring to support their learning and raise their achievement levels.

Giano also collaborates with community stakeholders such as the For-Us Foundation, Ball Foundation, Options and Ecolab to provide valuable resources in funding opportunities for student learning. An Options Teen Center provides on campus after-school homework support for students.

Giano is dedicated to a student-centered programs of academic excellence. The staff, students, and community work together to
form the professional learning community known as “Giano Intermediate School.”
