Giant Lakeside

My name is Chad Plumlee and I’m the owner of Giant Lakeside. My customers sometimes ask me why I got into the bike business. It all started when I was a kid. I spent a large portion of my childhood pestering the guys at our local bike shop in downtown Sherman. It was like a second home and I always wanted to recreate that type of atmosphere one day.

I stayed on two wheels, racing motocross throughout college and eventually spent 10 years in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2011, I decided the time was right to pursue my passion and I opened the first Cadence Cyclery in McKinney, TX.

Now, with Giant Lakeside we serve all cyclists around the DFW Airport area, including the communities of Grapevine, Flower Mound, and Coppell. Our store is very convenient to the trailhead for the Northshore Trail, too – we’re the only bicycle shop in Dallas/Fort Worth that can offer that!

We’re proud to be among the first businesses to locate in The Shops at Lakeside and we’re proud to be Giant’s first brand store in the Dallas/Fort Worth market. We strive to be a community-based bicycle shop. Within each community, there are many different types of cyclists, so our staff focuses on having knowledge in a wide array of cycling disciplines. We want our shop to be the resource for every cyclist’s needs.

We have a welcoming, knowledgeable staff who all love bikes. Damon Williams is the General Manager; he’s been with our company from the beginning. And, in our women’s-dedicated Liv store, you can meet two-time National Mountain Bike Champion Jessica Smith. We’re thrilled to have Jessica – who is one of just a handful of Liv Athlete Ambassadors around the country – on our staff.

Not too long ago, an obese customer came into our McKinney location to buy his first bicycle. He was uncomfortable with the experience at the gyms he’d visited, and he wanted to try riding a bike as a way to lose weight. Our staff took the time to educate him on cycling and what to expect as he started his journey. He began with a Giant Escape; after a while, he transitioned to a TCR. Today, he’s lost over 100 pounds! I’ve had several conversations with him and he credits the shop with saving his life. I don’t know if we did that, but I do know that cycling is the best way to get on the road to a healthy lifestyle!

Our mantra is "Experience Modern Cycling with Old-School Service" and my staff and I take that to heart with every customer who walks in the door. A bicycle shop can be intimidating to a new cyclist, but I believe an old-school service approach makes for a different experience. Combining this experience with the most current industry knowledge allows us to be integrated into the community and deliver true value to all our patrons.
