The park is site of the Barnhardt and Randolph Gold mines that garnered nineteenth century fame as the richest gold mining property east of the Mississippi. Today the park is one of the regions most sought after wedding venues. The old mining roads throughout the 70 acre park are now hiking/cycling trails and include the Gold Hill Rail Trail which was the original narrow-gauge railroad spur line through the mining region. The park is open during daylight hours. Picnic areas are first-come-first-serve. No charcoal grills are provided in the picnic areas. The Russell-Rufty Shelter/Meeting Hall, The Bernhardt Log Barn and Amphitheater are available for rent for formal, informal, private or corporate meetings, weddings and other events.
