Goody's Restaurant

Goody's History:
In 1957, the city of San Gabriel had an excellent selection of Mexican eateries: Panchito and El Gordo were among the more popular places, but the city lacked diversity. Karl Krueger and Paul Utter opened up a small classic American diner and called it Goody's. Over 50 years have passed and this small diner has passed the test of time for one simple reason: strong patronage.

Since Goody's first opened it's doors, it has always provided a family like atmosphere. The recipes have not changed over the years, and the restaurant strives to avoid buying ready to eat foods, and makes most of their food items in house instead. The soups are always made from scratch as well as the pancakes, homestyle potatoes and the majority of the menu.

In 1985, Los Angeles times featured an article on Betty Malchow, a 61 year old waitress who retired from Goody's after 27 years of service, and not much has changed since the article was written over 25 years ago. Each member of the current staff has been employed at Goody's for at least 10 years, and this is mainly due to the fact that it is impossible to not fall in love with the atmosphere.

Unfortunately, Goody's restaurant had to close it's San Gabriel location in 2010 due to a combination of an increase in rent as well as the economy's downfall, but it has found a new home in El Monte. The menu did not change at all. Nor did the staff, and of course neither did the patrons. Many of the guests that frequent Goody's have been loyal patrons for nearly 30 years. Although the new location is a more modern looking establishment, the values that the restaurant was built on have not changed. Goody's will continue to be home to many loyal patrons for many years to come.
