Gordon Parks Elementary School is a kindergarten through second grade charter school serving 115 students in 2014-2015. We are expanding to 4th grade in the fall of 2015. Founded in 1999 by Dorothy Curry and Sue Jarvis, the school was named in honor of the groundbreaking African-American photographer Gordon Parks, who proudly endorsed the school and its mission of providing children residing in the urban core with an education to nurture the whole child. With small class sizes, student to faculty ratio of 10 to one, intensive support services in special education, counseling and a holistic academic curriculum integrating art, music and physical education studies, Gordon Parks is especially well established to serve students struggling against the barriers of generational poverty.
