More about Governors Club

Governors Club is an award-winning full-service country club located inside the Governors Club gated community, and is ranked among the top 5 percent of private clubs worldwide by Boardroom Magazine. More than recreation, Governors Club offers vibrant social and cultural connections. The social scene is abundant with more than 400 events year-round.

Governors Club was founded by Truby Proctor in 1988, and is considered one of the finest private country clubs in North Carolina. Our 27 holes of Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf provide an exquisite backdrop for our Clubhouse. The first two nine-hole courses, the Lakes, at the lower end of the property and with a more typical North Carolina “Sandhills” feel, and the Foothills, featuring elevation changes as it runs up Edwards Ridge opened in 1990. Four years later, a third course, “The Mountain,” literally completed the journey, taking players up to a 27th hole offering a spectacular view. The 42,000-sq. ft. Clubhouse was completed in 1995, and serves as the social center of the community. The 12,000-sq. ft. Wellness and Recreation Center was completed in 1997-- the same year Governors Club Members acquired the Club and its facilities from the developer.

In 2013, Governors Club completed a $600,000 golf course renovation that rebuilt bunkers and converted greens to Champion Ultradwarf Bermudagrass. Other major renovations were also completed in areas of the clubhouse, including locker rooms, the ballroom, the foyer, and much of the second floor. In 2015, Governors Club was selected as a Distinguished Emerald Club of the World, ranked in the top 5 percent of high performing clubs in the world per BoardRoom Magazine's global list. Emerald Club Status also positions Governors Club as one of the top 29 residential country club communities in the United States.

The Club is currently governed by a Board of Directors and supported by various committees, which are responsible for setting policy. A professional management team manages daily operations of the Club and oversees a staff of approximately one hundred employees. The Club operates independently from the Governors Club Property Owners Association, which handles the affairs of the gated community, such as roads, signs and gate house.
