More about Grainger Chapel Church

Grainger Chapel Church of Christ was organized in the year of 1881 by Rev. H. J. Lovett near Stony Creek, which is located behind what is now Contentnea School. As the congregation grew, the church moved to what is now the front parking lot. Worship service was held under a bush shelter until lumber was brought from the Dover section to Grainger by Rev. R. A. Hargett to build a new church. Grainger Chapel got its name from the Railroad station and a local business man in the community.

On the third Sunday in November 1983, the members and friends of Grainger marched into the new church building. The cinder block was bricked and completed with a cornerstone laying and dedication service on the fourth Sunday in July 1988. In the year 1994, a new fellowship hall was added under the leadership of Elder R. Earl Jones. In the year 2001, the fellowship hall was enlarged, and a new baptismal pool was installed.

Upon this rock I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18. These are the principles that Grainger Chapel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ was founded upon.
