Grand Rapids Charter Township is a charter township of Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 16,661 at the 2010 census.GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 15.6sqmi, of which, 15.4sqmi of it is land and 0.2sqmi of it (0.96%) is water.DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there were 14,056 people, 4,852 households, and 3,779 families residing in the township. The population density was 911.6 per square mile (351.9/km²). There were 5,000 housing units at an average density of 324.3 per square mile (125.2/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 95.80% White, 0.99% African American, 0.18% Native American, 1.44% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.30% of the population.There were 4,852 households out of which 40.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.4% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% were non-families. 19.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.22.
