Short story of Grated Mix
The idea of the Grated Mix Restaurant was born from the initiative of a Colombian woman that came to Rhode Island in 2012.
For these past five years She has missed and craved the
authentic flavor of her native land Medellin, Colombia.
One day reminiscing about her mother “Doña Ofe” as she was called by her friends in Colombia, how she loved the garden, the caring of the animals and to cook. Oh, how she cooked!!!
Doña Ofe had a small restaurant in Medellin, Colombia that became known to all the residents closest to her.
Unfortunately, dying just at the age of 46 in January 2010 caused by a brain aneurysm.
For her love to the people that she fed and the kitchen, Doña Ofe left a family legacy in an old notebook full of her recipe of all types of food, sauces and of secrets how to turn a simple plate in a plate full of colors and incomparable flavors. Yes, that was “Doña Ofe”.
The idea of “Grated Mix”'s name is to create something different here in the United States without loosing our essence of Colombia.
Most of the ingredients used in our cuisine are grated that in our language, Spanish means “rallado”.
In honor of
OFELIA GARCIA, “Doña Ofe” January 5 1964 - January 25 2010.
We present “GRATED MIX”.
We hope that you enjoy our cuisine!!
