What is GMC?
A privately owned Cyclocross Camp in Irondale Al.
Owners?
Bike-Centric Family Kathy- Mom, Scott-Dad, Madalyn and Alex Green - the offspring
(when claimed as such)
Why?
As logic prevails- kinda sorta, we needed a place to ride and train, enjoy the heck out of either participating
in cross,for some of the family, and ultimately know that Birmingham needs a permanent course(s).
Hopefully GMCC will accomplish the above goals and be a catalyst for other courses around town, increased
participation in local races, and generally support the growth of off-road biking ( even though this is cross we
love xc as well and just like the rest of you want more , more, more!!!)
How?
-Thanks to our local inspiration Jerry Dufour for helping design , build, test, tweak, add, test some more, and
advertise GMCC. Additionally , professional wrench, rider, trail builder,Michael Enervold and his new company
Trail Solutions has been an integral part of GMCC trail design and building. Also unknown in the cycling world
and to a bike himself -Steve Smith- mini-excavator and skid steer expert has also been a key player in the
course, his first comment was " your building a psycho-cross course- cool!!"
-We additionally have had some help from others: cutting, dragging, chipping, lopping, raking , etc..
-Last but not least the trail building crew includes Alex Green who at 12 is an instant expert
(Self-described uh hem ) on the mini excavator, chain saw wielder , and general hard working help.
- As with most good things a woman has something to do with it- GMCC is not exception. So the biggest
appreciation is for Kathy Momma Green for giving the thumbs to our "psycho-cross course" adventure and
also feeding our hungry crew with some straight out of the kitchen ,better than restaurant eats.
