Green The Church

PILLARS OF WORK FOR GREEN THE CHURCH:

1. Green the Building : We will support church leadership in making the church itself more sustainable. From energy audits, to creating or bolstering recycling programs up to installing solar. We will work with participants to green the Church from the bottom up. It’s good for the environment and the bottom line!

2. Creation Stewardship: It is our duty as Christians to protect God’s creation. We will work with theologians to develop culturally relevant theological resources for environmental teachings. We’ll have tool-kits to help guide churches in better understanding how to act on our responsibility as stewards of the earth. Our goal is to be a national repository for the best information, teachings and resources for the issue of sustainability and the Church.

3. Centers for Resilience: Climate change related disasters like Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy hit low-income communities and communities of color hardest. We will work with churches to expand the critical role that they play as centers for support in times of disaster and centers that help a community get back on it’s feet. It’s more than disaster relief though, churches have and can continue to help people bounce back from economic disaster as well. It’s all connected and we want to help our Churches step up the efforts already taking place.

4. Thought Leadership: Many churches are taking action now. We will create platforms, pursue media and find speaking opportunities for members to highlight the leadership taking place in the church community and encourage even wider participation in sustainability efforts in the black community.
