More about Greenvillage Drive-In Family Restaurant Inc

In the summer of 1956, Paul & Virginia Peters of Fayetteville, PA decided to embark on a new family business. They built a restaurant and adjacent home where they and their six children would reside. The restaurant was built along Rt. 11 in Greenvillage, PA and was named Greenvillage Drive-In. It was built on one of the busiest highways in Chambersburg. Interstate 81 was non-existent so Route 11 was the main roadway running north and south. The large "EAT" sign placed on the roof of the building caught the eye of many hungry travelers. The menu included hamburgers, french fries, homemade beef barbeque, pizza, milk shakes, ice cream, and always a variety of fresh pies... a fast food menu at it's best! The restaurant offered curb service during the warmer weather and of course there was always the juke box and the various pinball machines to enjoy inside. The restaurant was truly a family business; all the children did their part in making the business run smoothly. After the death of Paul Peters in 1967, the family decided to close the restaurant and eventually sold it in 1968 to the Thrush family of Shippensburg who were the owners for a brief period of time. The next owners, the Spurtzells, owned the successful restaurant for several years until a tragic accident took the lives of Mr. & Mrs. Spurtzell and their son.

After the Spurtzells, there were a few owners that did not prosper with the business. In 1984, Evengelos (Angelo) and Hrisanthi Hronis bought the business. They mortgaged their family home and put everything they had into the business hoping for a successful outcome. With God's help, Angelo's hard work and love for his customers, he achieved his dream of running a successful business. Unfortunately on January 21, 1991, he was killed in a tragic car accident near his restaurant. The restaurant is now owned and operated by his three sons: Chris, Fotios and Bill Hronis. The Hronis family is grateful for the continued support from customers throughout the years.
