Greenville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plumas County, California, United States, on the north-west side of Indian Valley. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.0sqmi, all of it land. The population was 1,129 at the 2010 census, down from 1,160 at the 2000 census.HistoryThe Maidu people had been living in valley area around present-day Greenville for centuries when Anglo settlers arrived in the 1850's. Among the earliest structures built in the town was a boarding house operated by Mr. and Mrs. Green. The town was named for Green, who was killed in the collapse of the first Round Valley Dam. When Henry C. Bidwell arrived in 1862 and opened a trading post, several business owners moved down from Round Valley to Greenville.A fire destroyed much of the town in 1881. Quickly rebuilt, Greenville's population in 1882 was 500.ClimateThis region experiences hot and dry summers with temps as high as 104°Fand cold sometimes wet winters as cold as 0°F °F. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 109 persons (9.7%).
