More about Groomer Gregg's LLC

We are often asked “how long will it take to groom my dog” or “Why does it take so long to groom my dog”? The answers to those questions vary and here we provide you with the factors that affect the answer:

Grooming appointments should not be confused with your hair stylist appointments as dogs are groomed in the order they arrive for their appointments, “Appointment” only determines the order in which they are groomed. Each dog takes a different amount of time to groom.

We typically allow 3 to 4 hours of time to groom each dog although not all dogs require that much time and some may require more time. To ensure your dog’s comfort, they are given fresh water and monitored for potty breaks throughout the day.

To keep our prices competitive and affordable, we do not have a dedicated bather-brusher. Every groomer performs all of the activities associated with your dog’s groom and that includes bathing, drying and brushing out. Bathing a dog can take anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour in the case of a shedless treatment.
As a safety measure, we only use cool forced air high velocity dryers, floor dryers and fans to dry dogs. It may take longer to get your dog dry yet our methods remove the risk of dehydration and other negative impacts when using heated air.

Each groomer is typically assigned 6 to 10 dogs to groom each day, so it is impossible to groom each dog from start to finish in an eight hour day. That means your dog is groomed in several stages: preparation activities (pads shaved, nails trimmed and dremeled, ears cleaned and plucked, etc.), bathing, finish work (brushing, trimming, scissoring and clipping). Mat removal is very time consuming and must be done slowly and gently to avoid hurting the dog.

It should come as no surprise that most dogs do not “stand like a statue” while being groomed. Some dogs, because of previous negative experience, lack of training or temperament issues, fight the groomer during the grooming process. Dog handling issues can extend the process by as much as an hour. We do make every attempt to match our groomer’s personality and skill with each dog to ensure a good relationship is formed and all of our groomers must possess excellent dog handling skills.

Grooming that involves clipping a dog is an art form and the groomer is an artist in their own right, their work is their calling card. If groomers are rushed unnecessarily the quality of their work and the safety of the dog can be compromised. Groomers work as quickly as they can and are paid by commission.

If you need your dog’s groom completed at a certain time, please let us know in advance of your appointment or when you drop them off. We will do everything we can to ensure your dog is ready as requested.
