More about Grossman Burn Foundation

Recently, GBF has been assisting burn victims in Afghanistan by sponsoring the travel to the United States for young Afghan women who have suffered burns and/or mutilation, and by funding the first free-standing reconstructive surgery and burn center in Kabul. Dr. Peter and Rebecca Grossman also serve as medical advisors to the U.S-Afghan Women’s Council, a private-public partnership organization founded by President Bush and President Karzai to promote the revitalization of Afghanistan through the pillars of education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and political leadership.

The GBF has also produced a Humanitarian Assistance Manual, a comprehensive directory of resources to meet critical, urgent medical needs around the globe. The GBF is currently developing a burn prevention and first aid mobile phone app as part of its “Don’t Get Burned” campaign to educate the community.

The GBF's “Burn Treatment, Training and Telemedicine Program” (TTT) has been designed to reduce the burn mortality rate in developing nations by training and empowering local medical staff to effectively treat burn cases.

The TTT program involves:
• Transporting physicians from developing nations to the Grossman Burn Center headquarters in Los Angeles, California for training and observation
• The creation and distribution of videos and computer software programs for continuing professional medical education
• The procurement of equipment to support cutting-edge telemedicine communications
• The creation of a network of medical personnel to volunteer and offer guidance in complicated cases.
On December 4, 2012 in Kusuri, Indonesia, the Grossman Burn Foundation (GBF), working with program partners International Friends of Compassion, Disaster Logistics Relief Ltd, and Direct Relief International, officially launched the TTT program. Through the use of a real-time, high-definition satellite video link, medical personnel in Indonesia were able to consult with surgeons at the Grossman Burn Center in California on the treatment of seriously injured patients who lacked access to specialized medical care. Local doctors and medical staff were trained on the use of the technology, which will remain in Indonesia for their use.

GBF is currently working with the Bayat Foundation, Disaster Logistics Relief, and American Medical Overseas Relief to explore a partnership initiative to impact healthcare services and physician training in Afghanistan through the use of telemedicine and mobile technology.
