"Cool Pups"
The dachshunds were lining up for the first race of the day. The sun was high, so they moved the course under the trees for the benefit of the dogs and their owners. Each dachshund wore a numbered cape and most of them were too excited to line up properly. But with a shout, the race started and the chaos began. At the finish line, where the owners called out for their pets to come, only one of the seven made it to the finish. Cool pups were given out too all the contestants.

"Cheese Hearts"
Connie met the new neighbor by the mailbox with his dog, a tricolor King Charles Spaniel named Hudson. Bending down to stroke the silky ears, she was given a handshake. Later, seeing the dazed look on her face, her roommate said, "Oh, you met our new neighbor. He's gorgeous!" Connie nodded. "He's beautiful! those soft eyes, you could just fall into them. And I couldn't stop touching his ears." "I meant the guy, you dope." And rolled her eyes. But Connie didn't hear; she was in the kitchen ,making a batch of cheese biscuits for Hudson. It was love at first sight.

Gracie gripped the Frisbee in her mouth and waited by the door. Her owners were lingering over breakfast and had been giving her treats to pacify her. But it was Saturday and Olive, her best friend, was going to be at the park. Gracie decided to take charge and went over to her dad, who was working on a crossword puzzle. She dropped the Frisbee at this feet and lifted her paw to his knee. Looking at him, she tilted her head-- that always worked. "Okay, Gracie Girl. You win, " he said and got up. Gracie went to her mom for a hug and got another treat. She wished she could share it with Olive.

"Country Life"
Jasper lived in a manor house in Shakespeare Country. His indoor kennel was part of the 16th-century building of dark timber beams and whitewashed walls. Every day he was greeted with homemade treats and a good brushing. He and the master would often take a walk around the property- through the rose garden, and down through the pasture. Along the way they would greet farmers hard at work. Back home, he and the master would sit by the fire...Jasper, with another treat, and his master with a cup of hot tea. Country life suited them both.

"Cheez Rounds"
Jake loved his job. Like his father and grandfather, he was the mascot for Engine 84 in Boston. Riding up front with the captain was his favorite thing to do. He wore a simple red collar that contrasted beautifully with his black and white spots, and for parades he wore a plastic fireman's helmet with a #84 on the front. Everyone waved at him and sometimes he was given special treats. But the best treats always came form the captain's wife. She made cheese biscuits and they were the best! He had a hard time being professional when she delivered them; his wagging tail always betrayed him.
