More about HAC Smart Space

HAC smART Space is a community arts studio for the youth of Hattiesburg, MS. The Hattiesburg Arts Council and City of Hattiesburg Parks and Recreation, have joined together to form a creative arts program that wil provide quality art education to children ages 6-13 who reside in the Hattiesburg area. Children from public and private schools will be given the opportunity to have a diverse social and artistic opportunity to work together in one central location. The program will offer workshops/classes that will engage and educate young people as artists and leaders, as well as inspire creativity and positive problem solving. Our goal is to build relationships that will empower our youth to become stronger more imaginative and involved community members through the use of art infused collaborative learning.

STRUCTURE: The program will be divided by quarters, giving a solid three month period to work on long term projects. The Hattiesburg Arts Council will hire artists from the Mississippi/Hattiesburg area, and each quarter the children will be given a variety of artistic options to choose from. We are fortunate that our state has a talented pool of artists to employ, and the quarter system, will allow us to diversify our funds and our artists. At the conclusion of our 3 month course, there will be short programs and exhibits that will celebrate the students artistic accomplishments. These celebrations will take place at the CE Roy and in various places in the Hattiesburg area.

WHEN AND WHERE: Classes will meet after school on Monday and Thursday from 3:45 to 5pm and all of the classes will be held at the downtown C.E. Roy Building,
300 E. 5th Street.
Transportation to and from the C.E. Roy building will be the responsibility of the youth organization or parent.
