Welcome to Hand Harvested Wild Rice Company. We are a small, home-based family business located in northern Minnesota. Our company is built on a love for this truly natural product and the customs of gathering and finishing the wild rice. Collectively, we have over 50 years of wild rice experience.

Hand Harvested Wild Rice Company features only 100% Naturally Grown, Hand-Harvested Lake and River Wild Rice.

All of our wild rice is hand harvested as it has been done by the Indigenous people for centuries. Our wild rice is gathered from select lakes and streams, located within the Chippewa National Forest from naturally occurring wild rice beds. This rice is grown in a genuinely pristine and unique environment. Our product is wholly organic, raised under the sole influence of Mother Nature. Wild rice is truly a delicacy from the Northern wilds and is 100% natural.

Once harvested, our wild rice is then processed in the native tradition. This entails parching the rice over a wood fire, threshing the hulls from the rice kernels, followed by fanning to remove the chaff. For years, these traditions have been successful in producing quality wild rice, rich in flavor.

Hand Harvested Wild Rice is the original, natural wild rice. Currently a majority of the rice in the market is grown in paddies that are intensively farmed. Unlike the organic rice we feature, paddy rice is grown with the use of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and fungicides on a large scale. Within the state of Minnesota all wild rice must be labeled as to source of origin and method of harvest. If the label does not read "Hand Harvested, 100% Naturally Grown Lake and River Wild Rice," then the rice is not true Wild Rice.
