More about Happy Tails Shih Tzu's and Shih-Poos

We have been breeding Shih-Poo puppies since 2009. It was decision we made based on our love for our own dogs. We wanted to give people what we had, which was great companion and family animals. We spent a lot of time, energy and resources making sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into. It has been a roller coaster of puppy love since then! We have had some AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL puppies since then. And we will continue to provide families with these wonderful companions for as long as we can.
I am going to tell you the story of how this all started. On February 2nd, 2007 my grandmother passed away after fighting cancer, a month after that my parents separated, and we moved into my grandmothers empty home. At the time we didn't know if we would be staying there so we couldn't have a dog. After a couple months we decided we were staying there, so I wanted a dog, I wanted something I would not be allergic too, that would also be a great family pet. I researched and looked around, and I finally found a breeder in vermont who sold Shih-Poo puppies. When I was looking through her site, she had tabs labeled with each mom's name, I looked through each one, and noticed the last mom's name was RUBY (my grandmothers name!). When I clicked open the tab the first thing I saw was there birthdate...May 27...My grandmothers birthday! I knew right then and there we had to get a puppy from her. She had 1 puppy left...We called and brought him home a week later. My boy Levi. He started it all, I fell head over heals in love with him.
We have 7 adult dogs who are our family members, first and foremost. They are treated as family members, they live in our home, sleep on our beds, eat off our forks, etc. They are spoiled beyond belief. We didn't want to have too many adults in the house because we wanted to make sure the adults we did have were going to be as well cared for as possible. We don't plan on rehoming our adults when they are too old to breed, we plan on keeping them throughout their lifetime and providing them with loving care and snuggles until their final days.
Our puppies are born in my room, and sleep next to my bed the first 4 weeks of their lives. I hold, play with, cuddle and talk to each puppy on a daily basis, so they are very socialized with people. At 4 weeks old they move into the kitchen to be with the other dogs, they are kept in a play pen so they can see the other dogs, but not be overwhelmed by them. Around 6 weeks we start taking them outside for periods of play (weather permitting), we take them out of the pen to play with the adult dogs, we have friends and family members come in to play with them as much as possible. After they receive their shots we take them on a nursing home visit to visit the elderly people. It's wonderful for the patients and the puppies to meet new people and have a new environment. They can go home between 8-10 weeks. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
