More about Harkness Chapel

Harkness Chapel, located on Bellflower Road, is named for Florence Harkness Severance, daughter of Stephen Harkness. Her father was a silent partner in John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil. Florence Harkness Severance's family paid for the chapel to be built in her honor after her untimely death less than a year after her marriage.

Harkness Chapel is used primarily for academic classes, rehearsals and performances presented by the Case Western Reserve University Department of Music. It is available for weddings to qualified couples who have a connection to CWRU in accordance with the university's eligibility policy: Case campus facilities are not made available to individual for private functions, with the exception of memorial services or weddings in Amasa Stone Chapel and Harkness Chapel, and then only for members of the campus community (faculty, staff, students, alumni, members of governing boards, their parents or children). You and your fiancé meet these qualifications to reserve the facility.

Harkness features neo-Gothic architecture, antique oak and Georgia pine woodwork, and Tiffany windows. It offers a warm, intimate space for performances, lectures, talks, and weddings. There is one large classroom in the back of the building and restrooms located in the foyer area. The main entrance to the Chapel has ramp access and the interior is cooled by central air.
