Hardscapes
Home / Hardscapes
The hard part of a landscape is the Hardscape, no pun intended. This part of the design and development is critical, and it will make or break a landscape. Your hardscape is like your skeleton, or the framing inside the walls of your home, if your hardscape is built well and done right, everything else on top of it will thrive and perform. Creating the foundation for a beautiful landscape to last you for years with good maintenance.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of hardscape ideas, some of them may be suited for you and maybe some of them not so much. This is why we are here to guide you through, step by step, in our homework and planning process. Here at Hart Horticulture we will give you specific homework, a serious of questions to ask yourself and your spouse which will guide you towards the right landscape for you.

Once we have had several meetings, and discussed concepts, colors, use, functionality, and design, we will be closer to our landscape plan. once we pull the trigger on the design, we get into the nuts and bolts of your landscape. What kid of drainage we are building, grading and excavation, elevations, water pressure and gallons per minute will determine how we engineer your irrigation system.

Then Hart Horticulture will draft out the “Master Plans” and from there we can price each component of your landscape and Hardscape out. Usually at this step, clients choose one of several routes they can take with the project. Occasionally folks have multiple Landscape contractors bid out a project. So at this step there would be the comparison and evaluation of the proposals.

Each and EVERY contractor is different, they have different design idea, different skills and different approaches. All of your proposals will vary greatly, make sure your proposals all offer very detailed analysis of “where the money is going”. compare materials proposed and their costs. Make sure you ask questions and make notes on the proposals for comparison. Try to compare them “Apples to apples”, rather than “apples to Kumquats.”

If at this point you love the plans and designs from Hart Horticulture, you can purchase the plans to be installed from Hart horticulture, and have them installed by your own home gardener, or other contractor, OR you can hire Hart Horticulture to install the landscape plans. IF you choose to hire Hart Horticulture, there will be no charges or fees for the landscape plans, the design, planning meetings, or other preparatory work done by Hart Horticulture to accomplish the final landscape plans.

If you choose to employ Hart Horticulture, we will draft a contract specific to the project at hand. This contract will be for the service of building the specific landscape plans. The Contract will be configured to protect and ensure you, the client get all of the proposed landscape plans built well, and on time, while also ensure Hart Horticulture receives the agreed upon contract price for the work.
From this point we put you on our schedule, we pull permits if necessary, and we get to work!!

Edible Gardens
Home / Edible Gardens
If you have never had a food garden before, you would be amazed at how well you can feed yourself. Edible and Sustainable garden practice is at an all time high in Sonoma County. Hart Horticulture is here to guide you in growing some goodies for you and your family.

Now we won’t lie to you and tell you it is all easy breezy Japanesey, because like anything else thats worth it, it takes proper planning and good “Bones”. By Bones we mean, proper soil, proper and adequate irrigation, a fertilization and amendment schedule, a composting system, integrated pest management, and a diligent weed puller.

The one thing we can promise you is edible gardening and creating and edible garden is FUN! You will find yourself wandering in the garden more often, peeking around looking for wonderful delicious surprises daily! You may, after building and edible garden, need supervision from a spouse or a friend while visiting local nurseries.

Another thing most people do not consider about edible gardening is it can be beautiful and ornamental. Perfect little grid rows are not required to grow beautiful vegetables. You can integrate your veggies and herbs in with your perennials.

Take some time to look at some of the different ways we have configured edible gardens in the galley of photos. Remember all of our consultations are free. Give us a call and we can evaluate your space, sunlight exposure, soil, and landscape restraints to building and creating and edible landscape.

How We Work,

NEW INSTALLATIONS, AND LARGE SCALE LANDSCAPE REMODELS

We start with a FREE, ON SITE CONSULTATION.
We will review the clients goals and desires, their dreams for the property and project.
We will review site specific conditions: sun exposure, soil conditions, flooding and erosion issues, access availability and limitations, existing vegetation, current maintenance.
We will review ingress and egress of the property, the current problems with the existing layout, and the viability of the landscape remodel.
We will discuss and review a budget, short term goals, long term goals, and begin to develop a working plan.
You will go through the “HOMEWORK” with me. (A questionnaire for any homeowner and or property owner is located at the bottom of this page, it is a helpful tool for us to develop your “perfect” plan. Please take a minute or and hour to fill it out.)

From here we will layout a rough draft landscape plan.
We will look through images and materials under discussion.
We will possibly take a video or a car tour of other finished landscapes, view different plants and plantings, hardscape materials, such as pavers, driveways and retaining wall systems.
We will work through your “HOMEWORK”, so that Hart Horticulture can taylor your project just to you, and for you.
We will create a rough budget for review, and refining.
We will make the determination wether or not PERMITS are required.

3. Finalization
We will create for you the type of landscape and property plans you desire
Rough sketches from which to work with, to scale workable drawings which will satisfy all sub contractors, or full scale permit-able blue prints
We will review contract and payment options, and we will finish and choose our budget.
We will choose a start date and get to work.
