More about HAUNTED FARM OF TERROR

1817, the settlement of Tristesse. A dark shadow falls over the town in the shape of a mysterious stranger who calls himself only Larry. He enacts a campaign of terror and bloodshed on a near biblical scale. Those who survive the initial attacks manage to tie and chain him in his sleep and drag him to the town square to be hanged, but in his final moments, he speaks of a darkness beyond our world; a black abyss harboring forbidden secrets. He warns them that this isn't the end, and is promptly hung. The remaining survivors soon begin to succumb to a mysterious plague, which slowly grows to be suspected of being a curse left by Larry. Those who are still able-bodied go mad with paranoia and turn on one another, eventually taking torches to the town itself. All that is Tristesse is consumed in purifying flame.

1839, unincorporated wilderness. Wealthy businessman Ezekiel J. Alongi brings in workmen to clear out space in the woods to build a small town near the railroad to house workers and their families. Unbeknownst to them, Ezekiel is one of the few people alive who has heard the legend of Tristesse, and he is deeply interested in the occult. Driven by his desire to unlock the mystery of what happened, he founds the village of Lazarus on the borders of what was once Tristesse.

1843, the village of Lazarus. Working under false pretenses, supposedly digging for another well, workers uncover mass grave sites. They are first placated by Ezekiel's claims that they'd simply stumbled upon Indian burial grounds, but soon demand answers when they discover remnants of American-style buildings. Ezekiel plays dumb and calls off the excavation publically, but secretly deals with less scupulous workers and personally heads up further digs under the cover of night. Unfortunately, after only a week of further digging, workers begin to fall mysteriously ill. The town doctor does everything in his power to contain the sickness, but he fails to find a cure, and soon the whole town is overtaken by this unknown plague. Perhaps realizing he'd made a terrible mistake, Ezekiel's last known action is to send a telegraph to his family back east: "Do not come to find me, for you shall find only death here."

1844, unincorporated wilderness. Officials from Alongi's company make their way to the Michigan territory in search of their boss. After fruitlessly trying to find any record of Lazarus, they finally manage to pinpoint where it is. Upon arriving, Alongi's men are shocked to discover no trace of a village beyond Ezekiel's manor house. They attempt to locate any sign of the company's head, but come up empty handed. Further investigation over the course of several days turn up nothing more, and the men are forced to leave with more questions than answers.

1917, New York City. Lazarus Alongi, grandson of Ezekiel and black sheep of the family, heads off to Europe to fight alongside allied troops in the Great War. Already interested in the bizarre and the macabre, Lazarus finds his calling amidst the unparalleled bloodshed as a field medic. Despite saving many lives, Lazarus seems far more interested in the dead. More dazzled than distraught by the mass-scale murder surrounding him, he soon started crossing his interests: a few soldiers come forward and claim that Lazarus intentionally shot them just to perform surgeries on them. Before this can be proven, Lazarus disappears from the trenches and is presumed captured or killed.

Lazarus has, in truth, abandoned his post in search of greater glory, heading further towards the interior of Germany. Traveling under the guise of a Red Cross medic, and later a doctor, he is able to gain access to numerous wounded soldiers and dead bodies, as well as civilians affected by the war. Traveling further into the interior, Lazarus begins to encounter rural villages where superstition still runs rampant. Seeing a power in this belief, he begins to study the occult, hoping to use it to his advantage. By the end of the war, Lazarus is well-versed in the subject.

1919, New York City. Lazarus returns from Europe. His family initially welcome him back with open arms, glad to find that he hadn't been killed, but soon it becomes clear that he is now a different man. In fear of their safety, they force him to gather his belongings and leave home. Lazarus drifts from flop house to flop house, trying to find a new purpose outside his wartime atrocities. Days become weeks, weeks become months, months become years. Then, it finally hits him. There is a place for him in this world. Thinking back to his namesake, it starts to become clear that something out of the ordinary happened in his grandfather's village.

1922, New Haven. Lazarus steps off his train at New Baltimore Station, and following the same directions that his grandfather's business associates took so many years ago, he discovers the abandoned Alongi estate. Forcing his way inside, Alongi rifles through what remains of his grandfather's things. It is in the pages of a personal journal, found hidden in a hidden compartment in Ezekiel's bedside table, that Lazarus discovers the legend of Tristesse. Immediately fascinated by the story of an unknowable darkness beyond humanity's understanding, Lazarus sets in motion a plan to succeed where his grandfather had failed.

1924, Lazarus Alongi's manor. Having made little headway in discovering the truth behind Tristesse, Lazarus seeks the aid of others. Already well bonded with New Haven's local mortician and the head of a nearby home for the insane, Lazarus offers to pay them handsomely for their services in secret. The two men agree, and join in a partnership with him. Now with access to fresh cadavers and live test subjects, Lazarus begins into a series of twisted experiments, part surgical and part ritual. Though initially disturbed by his actions, his partners slowly come to accept their benefactor's line of thinking.

It is after these rituals begin that Lazarus begins to see unexplained things: strange lights dancing in the night, shadows of men who aren't there, the outlines of buildings that don't exist. In his sleep, he is haunted by images of mass graves and oceans of blood, narrated by a far away voice that he can't understand. Convinced that he must be nearing the breakthrough he's seeking, Lazarus begins constructing "the device."

1927, Lazarus Alongi's manor. "The device" is complete. Described by Alongi as "the mechanical womb of a power beyond our wildest dreams," it is an unholy marriage of science and the occult. His experiments are now in their final stage, and preparations are made for the machine's awakening. With his associates eagerly gathered, awaiting their initiation to godhood, Lazarus Alongi activates "the device."

One month later, the police arrive at the Alongi estate, investigating on behalf of the New Haven grocer, who was concerned that Lazarus hadn't been in for weeks. They enter the house and discover horrors beyond anything they'd ever imagined. In the front hall, the mortician had clawed his fingers down to stumps against the front door, a look of utter terror on his face. The doctor from the asylum had hung himself in the bathroom, leaving a cryptic message scrawled in his own blood upon the mirror: "HE LIVES". Most unsettling of all, both were missing their eyes.

Following trails of blood to the basement, they discovered Alongi's dark secret. Corpses and bones littered the floor. Human organs and skin were kept in labeled containers and in various states of freshness. Tables were lined with surgical instruments and torture devices the likes of which they'd never seen. Every scrap of paper had been burnt beyond recognition. No trace of Lazarus Alongi or his device were ever found.

1928-2000: Mysterious disappearances occur throughout the Lenox area. People and animals vanish without a trace and are never seen again. Occasional reports are made of disturbing sights by the old Alongi estate. Some claim to have seen shadowy buildings in the distance. These reports are written off as the work of drunks and hoaxers looking for five minutes of fame.

2001: After a long absence, the Alongi family finally returns to their estate in Lenox Township. Seeking to capitalize on the infamy of the house and its land, they begin inviting the brave and the foolish to ride through the woods and step into the house. But is it all just fun and games, or is a sinister hand guiding them from beyond the mortal coil, reaching out for more victims to sate an ancient and eternal bloodlust?
