About our Pastor

Dwayne Mandell Shy Sr. was born on July 26, 1973 in New Bern, NC. Dwayne graduated from New Bern High School in 1991, and relocated to Raleigh to attend college at Shaw University where he pursued a degree in Business and Public Administration. Dwayne gave his life to the Lord in 2001. Soon after being faithful to the call of salvation, God called him into the ministry and in September 2003, his Pastor, Bishop Clarence Flowers Jr. and Bishop Wallace Grimes of UPHC Inc. licensed and ordained him to preach the Gospel.

On April 1, 2007, the membership of Havelock Community Missionary Baptist Church confirmed the call with a unanimous vote to call Rev. Shy to serve as Pastor. His approach to the ministry is simple, he believes that we are the body of Christ and members in particular. In the local assembly there are members that have gifts and callings that need to be cultivated and put to use so that the ministry can work smoothly with maximum cohesion and stability. Together we can pull down the strong-holds that oppress God's people.

Reverend Shy's personal vision is to see the Glory of God in our churches once again. These are the last days that we are living in and God has birthed in him through pain and adversity, final hour ministry. The church is in need of a facelift and a clear vision and God has tasked him with this part of HIS vision.

Pastor Shy is married to the former Sandra Bates who is originally from Chicago, Illinois. They met while they were in college at Shaw University and were married on April 6, 2000. Mrs. Shy serves as one of four licensed Ministers at Havelock Community Missionary Baptist Church. She is currently employed as a Teacher Assistant with the Craven County School System.

Pastor Shy, and his wife Sandra, and their three children: Brianna, Dwayne Jr., and LaDarius reside in Havelock, NC. His oldest daughter, Dominique Sharperson resides in Raleigh, NC.
