Havoline Hall

Havoline Hall was a work in progress for many months (signed agreement to purchase on 3/1/13, other paperwork 5/13, and grand opening 11/1/14). We worked to bring the building back to its original grandeur...exposed brick walls, original tin ceiling, etc.
There is a little bit of a background with the name Havoline Hall...
In 1909 the Indian Refinery in Lawrenceville began production of Havoline products and in 1934 began producing Havoline Wax Free Motor Oil, which set a new standard in oil quality.
The other tie in is the historic Lawrenceville baseball team, the Havolines, established in 1919. The Havolines were coached by Mordecai Brown, aka Three Finger, who was an American Major League Pitcher at the turn of the 20th Century. Mordecai was born in Nyesville, IN and was a pitcher for the Cubs from 1904 to 1912, as well as part of two World Series Championships before he retired, moved to Terre Haute, IN, then later to Lawrenceville, IL to coach the Havolines. Brown was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1949. Brown was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and one of the groups preferred meeting places was the West Side Cigar Store in Lawrenceville...now Havoline Hall.
