In 1896, Hazel Green began as a rural, farming community with a one-room school house, but over the years it has become a thriving suburb with a population of almost 12,000. Hazel Green Elementary has grown as well, undergoing numerous additions and renovations, the most recent one being completed in the summer of 2006. This was the most comprehensive, resulting in an entirely new school, with the exception of the gym, lunchroom, and one hallway of classrooms. Prior to this, Hazel Green Elementary was a K-6 school. During the construction, the sixth grade permanently rejoined Meridianville Middle School and the fifth grade was housed there temporarily. Upon completion, the fifth grade returned and we now serve K-5.
