Hearst Hacienda Lodge

The Hacienda is Hearst’s Ranch/Guest house constructed by Julia Morgan in 1929. It boasts beautiful murals, exquisite architecture and a beautiful setting. The lodge consists of 6 distinct room styles for a total of 14 rooms and is open year round for recreational use. The guest of the Hearst Hacienda included many famous people such as Marion Davis, Errol Flynn, Jean Harlowe, Will Rogers, and Dick Powell. Hearst era came to an end when the government bought the approximately 158,000 acres on December 12, 1940. The War Department gained 108,950 acres when other landowners sold their acres. Totaling 266,950.11 acres within the Reservation. In 1941 the installation recieved its name after Lieutenant General Hunter Liggett and later redesignated as redesignated Fort Hunter Liggett Military Installation in 1975.
