I am a birth doula certified through DONA International. Birth doulas are trained professionals in the non-medical aspects of pregnancy and birth. They provide emotional support, assist in developing birth plans, provide continuous support during labor and delivery, and help the mother process the birth afterwards. Studies on doula-supported births have shown that labors are shorter, cesareans and other interventions are less necessary, and women have more positive feelings about their birth experiences.
