AFJROTC is not a military recruiting program—rather; a military environment is used to promote development of citizenship skills applicable to any walk of life. Cadets incur no military commitment. Cadet uniforms, insignia and awards are provided at no cost to the student.
The HHS AFJROTC program is intended to help cadets become more competitive for college scholarships or post-high school employment. Courses include classroom academics covering a broad array of subjects (including some that fulfill HHS core graduation requirements), physical conditioning, and co-curricular activities offering hands-on experience in teamwork, leadership, self discipline, and citizenship.
Visits to military installations are planned each year. One visit may include a flight on a military aircraft. Another feature of the program is the end-of-year awards banquet, at which medals, ribbons, trophies, plaques and other awards are presented to cadets for their accomplishments during the year.
For those cadets interested in the armed forces, successful JROTC completion may assist them in obtaining a service academy appointment or an ROTC scholarship, or if they choose to enlist, they may be eligible for advanced rank and benefits.
