More about Henrietta Fire District

The Henrietta Fire District is a combination fire department which encompasses the entire town of Henrietta. Our response area is approximately 39 square miles, including 18 miles of the New York State Thruway.
Our District has more than 11,000 residential structures and more than 2,500 commercial and industrial addresses. The Town of Henrietta is constantly growing, with additional residential and commercial addresses being added all the time. The Town of Henrietta has a population estimated at 42,500 residents. Due to the large commercial and industrial base in town, this number swells to over 250,000 during business hours.

The Fire District also protects the students, faculty and properties of the Rochester Institute of Technology and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. This campus has a full-time population of more than 13,000 students, in addition to a large number of part-time students and faculty.

The Fire District currently has six fire stations, which house a total of eight engine companies, one 105’ Quint, two salvage / rescue trucks and one heavy rescue truck. In addition, the District owns several pieces of service and auxiliary equipment including a specialized rescue trailer, a fire safety trailer and a heavy duty flat bed truck.

The Fire District is made up of three Fire Companies. They are Henrietta Company #1, West Henrietta Fire Department and Genesee Valley Fire Department. These three “social” companies supply the Fire District with the volunteer manpower, while the District provides all of the firefighting equipment and training.

The Fire District line personnel consist of approximately 60 volunteer firefighters and officers, 24 career firefighters and 10 career Lieutenants. In addition, the District employs four Public Safety Dispatchers, a Secretary / Treasurer and a full-time mechanic. The Operations are commanded by a career Fire Chief, a career Assistant Chief and three volunteer Battalion Chiefs. The "business" side of the District is managed by five publicly-elected Fire Commissioners.

The Fire District typically responds to nearly 4000 calls for service each year. We utilize a state-of-the-art dispatch center to alert the appropriate staff to respond based on the type of call. Our running orders have been tailored to ensure the right equipment responds to mitigate the many different types of incidents we are dispatched to. From single-engine EMS calls to multi-company responses for structure fires, our goal is to put the right amount of equipment and manpower on the road in a rapid manner.
