The HI-PACE study at East Carolina University (ECU) is looking at the effects of exercise intensity on risk factors for diabetes in obese African Americans. Participants will exercise at ECU for 6 months which will be supervised by research staff. Assessment for diabetes risk factors will occur at the East Carolina Heart Institute.
Individuals may be eligible for HI-PACE if they are obese, not currently exercising, a non-smoker, not type 1 or type 2 diabetic, and are not taking diabetes medication or weight loss medication. There are other criteria for inclusion which will be assessed by the research staff at enrollment.
