More about Hillsboro Lighthouse

Built in 1906-07 by the Russell Wheel & Foundry Company of Detroit, the Hillsboro Lighthouse is located on the end of a 3-acre parcel of land in Hillsboro Beach, FL (26.259314, -80.080804) on the North side of Hillsboro Inlet. First lit on March 7th, 1907, the 142-foot structure’s 2nd-order bivalve Fresnel lens flashes every 20 seconds, emitting a light from its 132-foot focal plane that is considered to be the brightest in the world, measuring 5.5 mega-candles with a beam that can be seen approximately 28 nautical miles.

The Hillsboro Lighthouse may be easily viewed from two locations: West view from the Pompano Beach Inlet Park at 2660 N Highway A1A in Pompano Beach, or a closer South view from the beach, accessed by entering the beach at East end of NE 16 Street, Pompano Beach, or 0.1 mile North from the paved public beach access path along the North edge of the Canada House property. Walk north to the inlets South jetty, a distance of about 0.4 miles or 0.3 miles respectively.
