More about Hogosha-Do Karate Academy

Welcome to Hogosha-Do Karate Academy, here you will be immersed in the martial arts from a Christian perspective. Hogosha simply means “Guardian” in Japanese and Do means “Way”, together would be “Guardian Way”. The Hogosha-Do signature technique is actually an atypical guard, where your arms are protecting your torso and therefore your heart. We, as Christians are to guard our hearts from evil and are to protect others from doing harm; while living according to God's Word.
Karate, as a whole, should be embraced as a life style rather than a hobby because Karate focuses on all aspects of the body(Mind, Body and Spirit). The Honor Code itself should be lived out on a daily basis both in and outside the dojo, the Honor Code is also a reflection of God's Word. In order to excel the martial arts, you, as a student must be honest with yourself, conduct yourself with integrity, respect everyone you encounter, even if they disagree with you, or treat you unfairly. Have the courage to stand up for Truth, discipline yourself in all aspects of your daily routine. Self-control is your ally in any heated situation. You must have the perseverance, patience, and humility trust in the Lord with all your heart.

Mission:

To make an impact in the students lives and the community, by instilling principles like the Hogosha-Do Honor Code that will help the students as they mature both inside and outside the dojo.

Created by Micah Stoddard in 2015, Hogosha-Do translates to “The Way of the Guardian”; which incorporates three martial arts styles: Isshinryu, Taekwon-Do and Shaolin Kung Fu.What makes this style distinct from other styles is the guard and the countering of aggressive techniques.
-Cross Guard(X-Guard) The Way of the Guardian utilizes this technique as a means of protecting both the upper and lower body; limiting exposure against an opponent, plus it allows for versatility in executing both upper and lower techniques. This position was primarily used for wielding two blades when knife fighting, ideal for quick transitioning and grip reversals.
-Fluid Circular Motion Derived from Shaolin Kung Fu, these techniques can be executed in such a manner that cannot be distinguished from neither blocks nor punches. Rather, each technique becomes a continuous counter against a flurry of techniques.
-Countering Techniques and Stances Like most martial arts, techniques and stances are linear in motion. By utilizing the transitional 45 degree stances, a martial arts practitioner can evade and counter any attack whether it be with a sparring partner or a real life situation. This also leaves the opponent vulnerable and exposed in areas that would otherwise be protected.
